Parents, besides instinct how else did you learn the best way to parent?
Because let’s be honest, we aren’t all perfect and we don’t just become a mother and know how to do everything! We have to learn somehow, right? Was it a person who gave you a lot of advice when you first had your child, did you read books, or did you just "know it all" (if so, please share your logic :D )

I think without my neighbors, my SIL and my older sisters, i would be doing everything the harder way. I used to call my sister all the time with my first child asking random questions and she would always give me the answer in the simplest way. My neighbor just called me, on the verge of a breakdown and wanted to know what to do when the baby wouldn’t stop crying. My heart goes out to the poor girl, who just had her first child and can’t seem to get the hang of it yet. I even plan on going over there when i get better(i’m sick right now) and help her out for a little while. Who/what do you learn from?
My mom wasn’t very supportive of me when i had my first child. It’s a shame, but thank goodness for my sister’s and my brother’s wife…

I learnt from my parents being an example, and from reading and watching other people be parents apart from instinct. I think that the key word to being a good parent is Patience, and for me that came with age.

My mother taught me a lot. My sister (3 kids) and my brother (5 kids) were also huge helps as well. And I learned a lot from the nanny too.

Part from my Mom, part from my MIL and the rest from my own personal convictions. I guess I knew early on I would breastfeed. I saw my Mom do it as a child. I knew I would not allow smoking, cursing around my kids and I switched to organic foods and cleaners in the home. I did not do AP with my son, he was content on his own, he wouldn’t be one to need to cry it out. My daughter I’ve done AP and she seems to love it but I didn’t read a book. I kind of did it then figured out that was what I’ve been doing.
