We ALWAYS hear "Ali LOST his Best Years". Do we not TRUMPET ENOUGH the Patriotism of JOE LOUIS "Giving Up" His?
From the Spring of 42 to the Summer of 46 { MORE THAN 4 LONG YEARS! } The Great "Brown Bomber" had a grand total of 1 Title Defense, because of the Noble Patriotism he displayed during the years of World War 2 !….These would have been some of Joe’s most extraordinairly years of Pugilistic Exploits. But to Joe, giving his service to "Apple Pie" was MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than getting a "Piece of the Pie"!
This sighting IS NOT meant to be an "Anti-Ali" statement. It is simply to reinforce what a TRUE American Hero "The Brown Bomber" REALLY WAS.
Dollbaby XO
Sure did and what did he get in turn? He couldn’t walk into a restaurant in his home state and have lunch. Then on top of that Uncle Sam decides to charge him with Tax Evasion so much for being a hero!
Kudos for trumpeting Joe! He tends to get slighted because baby boomers in the U.S. tend to trumpet Ali due to his refusal to sign up and i find it funny that all those draft dodgers have been running the government the last 18 yrs. and send kids out to die without much thought.
*Edit- To Galactus:
This notion of Ali being a "freedom fighter" is intellectually dishonest! Safe to say all black folks were tired of second hand treatment at that time, but to try and revise history, as others have done, for the purposes of making Ali a man for the cause is absolutely wrong. At his best he was a lackey for the Nation of Islam and at his worst a man who promulgated self-hate. At no time was he a spear for the Civil Rights movement and you degrade the work of hundreds of athletes/entertainers that actually participated in major ways.
Another troubling comment was your idea that black people were treated worse in this country during the 60’s because they all of a sudden found awareness. This is hogwash! The civil rights struggle began after the civil war and only reached its culmination, legally, in the 60’s. Get rid of the savior complex and recognize that the transition from kaffles to cuff links was a long arduous battle for liberty!

Rock on…quite a few athletes took time off from their careers to serve our country, and they don’t make anywhere near the amount of money the spoiled brat athletes make today. I’m thinking of Ted Williams in particular.
Thanks for posting this…BTW I Love Cassius Clay, thanks for making it positive ![]()
