Can it be true ? African Americans have NEVER been repaid for the suffering at the hands white men.?
LOOK AT THIS! 40 acres and a mule is a term for compensation that was promised to be awarded to freed African American slaves after the Civil War: 40 acres (16 ha) of land to farm, and a mule with which to drag a plow so the land could be cultivated.
40 acres (16 ha) was a quarter of a quarter-section. The award was a land grant deeded to heads of households, the land presumably formerly being owned by land-holding whites. It was the product of Special Field Orders, No. 15, issued January 16, 1865 by Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, which applied to black families who lived near the coasts of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Sherman’s orders specifically allocated "the islands from Charleston, south, the abandoned rice fields along the rivers for thirty miles back from the sea, and the country bordering the St. Johns river, Florida". There was no mention of mules in Sherman’s order, although the Army may have distributed them anyway. Federal and state homestead grants of the time ranged from 1/4 section up to a full section.
After the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, his successor, Andrew Johnson, revoked Sherman’s Orders. It is sometimes mistakenly claimed that Johnson also vetoed the enactment of the policy as a federal statute (introduced as U.S. Senate Bill 60). In fact, the Freedmen’s Bureau Bill which he vetoed made no mention of grants of land or mules. (Another version of the Freedmen’s bill, also without the land grants, was later passed after Johnson’s second veto was overridden.)
By June 1865, around 10,000 freed slaves were settled on 400,000 acres (160,000 ha) in Georgia and South Carolina. Soon after, President Andrew Johnson reversed the order and returned the land to its white former owners. Because of this, the phrase has come to represent the failure of Reconstruction and the general public to assist African Americans.
A very poignant Question.
Some great ANSWERS.
Perspective is important.

I’d consider trillions in welfare and other government subsidies, which blacks tend to use at a significantly higher rate than any other race in this country, and the current generations of white people being subject astronomically high levels of black-on-white crime, as payment.
Edit: Anonymous, that’s why I included the line about "other government subsidies," such as pouring money into black schools, offering race-based scholarships to blacks, etc…, all which have proven to be fruitless endeavors, because throwing money at problems do not make them go away, it just makes them really expensive problems.

My family never got paid by the British for being their slaves, so shouldn’t i get paid too? That would be fare, since they weren’t the only slaves.

We didn’t & don’t really expect white people to do anything for us. They never have and never will. They are a dishonest group of people. That’s why we’ll forever be stuck to them like white on rice.

It’s true.
Obama is a nice start but they still have a lot to make up for

la la la, get a better history lesson. whites were never slaves, they were indentured servants and they did that by choice and were treated much better than slaves were and a lot of them became the slave masters

I believe it would be a completely different ballgame if blacks had gotten what they were promised. If the ex-slaves were given a running start i don’t believe we’d have many of the problems we do now, in the black community.

Juliette: actually every race was a slave at one point.about 90% of Europeans were serfs during the medieval times, which was basically just another name for a slave. not to mention that many of the irish were slaves after wars to the spanish.
anyways, as far as reparation for slavery, its kind of a tricky thing to do; i mean what do you do about the people who are 1/2 black? or the people who are black ,but their families immigrated here after slavery was over? and if you pay the black people, does that mean we should also pay the indians and the Japaneses? or the irish because when they came to america they were highly discriminated against?

to FFF:
The Japanese were repaid and apologized to, given representation and with the help of that representation given a nearly predominantly Japanese state: Hawaii. They were interned for no more than about 2 years. Native American groups were given varying amounts of land and receive money from the government annually
But this is the land of the "indian givers" and such.
to poster:
Blacks remain one of the few groups without an actual repayment, in general.
I personally can not take too much of fence. My maternal great great grandfather, one of 4 children of a slave and slave owner, was given some 300 acres of land by his father/owner (and allowed a "white" education), which he later divided amongst his children and they each created and owned some stores or a gas station or something. Some of my other close ancestors were also given land by former slave owners or their relatives, after they died off it was sold to white people, who ruined it. I’ve been to some of those areas and there are nothing but hicks with shack looking houses living where large single family homes and vast farm and wood land existed.
Still.

If a white child was born in Mexico from US parents, would they call it American Mexican? What about Russian parents having a child in Africa. Would it be called Russian African? And should the present day Italians give something to the present day Israelis for the suffering of the Jews when the Romans were there? If you go by the Bible, I think the Egyptians owe the Jews a lot of something. And what about when Genghis Khan attacked Europe? When I think about it I remember my cousin Bob never paid me the $10.00 for the bicycle I sold him 43years ago. He died 30 years ago. Maybe I could get the money from his brother who is still living.
