Minority ReportMinority Report (2002)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: In the year 2054 A.D. crime is virtually eliminated from Washington D.C. thanks to an elite law enforcing squad “Precrime”. They use three genetically altered humans (called “Pre-Cogs”) with special powers to see into the future and predict crimes beforehand. John Anderton (Tom Cruise) heads Precrime and believes the system’s flawlessness steadfastly. However one day the Pre-Cogs predict that Anderton will commit a murder himself in the next 36 hours. Worse, Anderton doesn’t even know the victim. He decides to get to the mystery’s core by finding out the ‘minority report’ which means the prediction of the female Pre-Cog Agatha (Samantha Morton) that “might” tell a different story and prove Anderton innocent.

What would you do if some cop started going around arresting people just because they,…?
,..had the ability to foresee the crimes that they thought people were going to commit in the future like in that 2001 movie "Minority Report"? They’re getting arrested when yet the crime itself wasn’t even commited yet.

What would you do if you learned that that cop was going around town doing this to "future" criminals before the crime itself was even commited before they were even guilty of a crime?

I’ve never seen the movie, but I’ve seen the trailer and the reviews so I would like to know what happens in it and how it ends before watching it and what happened to all those "future" suspects.
"ahsoasho2u2",
so you’re saying they should be punished even if they didn’t do anything yet? You’re a monster in that case. It’s like saying freewill doesn’t exist. Shame on you.
"db30344",
Your reply is also disturbing. Are you really that much of a monster?
"Jimmy Whipsers",
Sheesh, you are a jerk. You completely missed my message and whole point and you fail to see the logic in my argument here. If anyone’s a an idiot here, it’s not me, it’s you and half of these other users who also gave the same kind of message you gave. Do you really because freewill is an illusion? SHEESH!!
"lone butcher Spartan remembers",
If you’re actually agreeing with it, then you are also a cold-hearted bastard. They haven’t even done anything yet, you fool! Why just f#cking KILL them while you’re at it if they’re too dangerous to be kept alive. I will see this movie just for astoundment anyway.
Half of you idiots don’t seem to realize that that would be a horrible destruction of justice. It’s inconviebale and inhumane. Just because someone thinks you’re going to do something bad doesn’t mean they can punish you if it hasn’t even happened yet. If you truly want crime prevented and think freewill is negated by fate like this movie gives the message of, then why not just f#cking kill everyone and yourselves, while you’re at it? That’ll prevent crime forever.
"El Scott",
Fnally a very good reply. Even though half the users here were correct like you and see the logic in my reply, you really helped drive home my point. Thanks for the great reply.
"Jimmy Whispers",
I don’t know if your second paragraph was referring to me or the user with the first 2 words "db"m but I was assuming you were addressing me, hence the reply I gave you.
"Tad",
even if someone could see the future, it can’t be 100% correct at all times if we have freewill. Since we’re all capable of doing nasty things, then shouldn’t we all just be killed and kill ourselves to truly guarentee any crimes?

To prosecute someone for their potential to commit a crime (aka a "Pre-crime") is an aberration of justice. Prosecution requires action and evidence. Were "pre-crime" to become an actual punishable offense (as opposed to "conspiracy" which is already an offense), it would be the death of our democracy.

You’re asking this in the wrong category boy. The people here will basically say that they will kiss the cops butt and like it.

DB- The only idiot is you. Think outside the box puss E boy. How do you know five years from now your stupid @$$ wont kill someone. No one wakes up in the morning and says 10 years from now i will kill someone. You’re an idiot.
Jimmy Whispers | Nov 11, 2009

Well that can’t actually happen you know.
But IF it could I guess the preventive measure would come under the whole idea of preconceived crime…

It’s mostly tom cruise running around trying to prevent himself from committing a murder that he sees himself committing and he doesnt know his motive but then figure it out. Kinda lame…

Clairvoyants
Think of all the lives we could save.

Don’t waste your time watching that movie, it was stupid. Basically one of the main characters who is the cop gets framed for "attempting" to kill someone. Its all really confusing and I forget the ending but it was dumb and I really suggest not watching it unless your goal is to waste your life for a good 2 hours.

I have to have probable cause to make an arrest. Any arrest made because the Officer wanted to prevent a future crime would result in the arrest being dismissed and the Officer evaluated for mental health issues.

Strange but true, your President Barry actually proposed doing this. Time to wake up folks, this guy’s a commie.

EDIT:
Yes, Barry proposed setting up the machinery to hold people without charges. People don’t understand that he could very easily use it against Americans that he deems as threats………. After all, according to DHS, I am a potential Right Wing Terrorist because I am a white male, with right leaning political views, anti-abortion, Christian, gun owner, and a veteran of our own military. The idea of what he says is disturbing.

As for the men taken prisoner fighting American forces, they are prisoners of war. They will be returned to their home countries when the fighting is over. If there are criminal charges against some then swell, charge them. It’s not like we have not had POW in every other war. Germans were not the only nationality to wear Wehrmacht Uniforms…………

It can’t happen…
