My sister is 5 years old and in grade 1 (she skipped a year) they have a diary that they write in every day. This is what she wrote.

This is a story. Linda she then’s she is not very nise (nice).
She has hyperactivity. So my parents dont allow her to eat too many because it makes it worse for her. … any help?
Eating sweets doesn’t cause hyperactivity, it’s a myth. Just talk to the Kid!

Don’t overreact. It’s just a little kid using her imagination. She must be very bright to be able to write that well at her age.

you should really take her to a therapist or have your parents take her because that’s just not right. no 5 year old thinks like that so yes u should be worried about her

I used to say or write ugly things when i was little. like that i wanted to suffocate and stuff. Maybe show her some new books or entice her with other kid friendly activities like taking up a hoby would help. Ask your parents too.

If that’s the only violent thing she’s written , I wouldn’t worry about it. If she shows a pattern of doing such things, or abusing animals, meaness
and selfishness, then I’d be concerned.

It’s more likely to be her using her imagination rather than a symptom of poor mental health, but if you have a gut feeling, you shouldn’t ignore it. You’re best to ask her about it and why she wrote that she wants to be dead. She wouldn’t be able to give a very thorough explanation of course, but it can still give you some insight. Chances are she’ll be fine, but keep an eye on her. If it gets worse and she starts hinting that she really wants to die, you should consider taking her to a child psychologist. Right now though, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Children have some bizarre tendencies.

She’s very small, and may be experimenting her emotions. This can happen if a child is in a very loving home and never feels or sees hatred, abuse, meanness etc. She’s just trying out all these new emotions and using her imagination. If she does it again, I would talk to her about it and then take her to the school counseller.
